This live beginner-level Hindustani vocal course introduces students to the rich tradition of Indian classical music. The course focuses on the essential building blocks—voice training, understanding of swaras (notes), taal (rhythm), and simple compositions in select ragas. Through practice-based sessions, students develop a strong sense of pitch, timing, and expression. Perfect for learners of all ages looking to build a classical base for devotional, semi-classical, or Bollywood singing.

  • Introduction to the saptak (7 swaras) – Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni

  • Vocal warm-ups and alankars (patterned exercises)

  • Understanding shuddh (pure) and komal (flat) notes

  • Introduction to tanpura and drone practice

Rhythm & Taal Basics

  • Understanding the taal system (matra, vibhag, sam, khali)

  • Practice with basic taals like Teentaal (16 beats) and Dadra (6 beats)

  • Clapping exercises and tempo control

Raga Exploration

  • Introduction to beginner ragas like Yaman, Bhoop, and Des

  • Aroh–Avaroh, Pakad (catch phrase), and chalan (movement)

  • Singing basic compositions (Bandish) in slow (vilambit) and medium (madhya) laya

Expression & Improvisation

  • Practice of meend (glide), kan swar (grace note), and gamak (oscillation)

  • Simple aalap and taan improvisations
